I’m demystifying my understanding of hypnosis here for you.
I became interested in hypnosis after delivering my first daughter. I saw episodes about hypnobirthing on the morning shows and became so intrigued by the idea that my perception of delivering a baby had so much power over my experience of delivering a baby that I had to learn more.
I was a control fanatic, in my life, in my job, and now with this pregnancy. I tried to control everything to help quell my constant anxiety. If you’ve ever delivered a baby, you know that control does not seem possible, and the fear that is embedded in our culture around delivery exacerbates the pain and suffering. When we are fearful, we constrict — physically. Delivering a baby when you are constricted and not in a state of allowing…the uterus is also constricting. Through learning self-hypnosis, you can deliver while in a state of allowing. The constriction lessens; there is time distortion, there is less pain, there is control — but the control is over your breathing and your state of being, the baby is born — just like babies have birthed since the beginning of humanity.
Turns out these principles can apply to most any situation you’re faced with. Hypnosis is a way to look at a situation and understand that the problem and the solution are two ends of the same stick. It is an intentional way of imprinting your image of what the solution would look and feel like in your mind; then build new neuropathways to that new image and let the old image become less automatic/reactionary.
