Healthcare Finance Reform

Anyone interested in this Family Nurse Practitioner’s idea of health care finance reform?

It is simple. It is bipartisan, could be applied locally as well as nationally and would lower costs for absolutely everyone. Most importantly, it is Person-Centered.

You would need to read all previous posts up to this point. START here.

If what you have now read makes sense to you personally, I offer you this idea of how to pay for it.

Self Care 1st Health Care Plan

  • Start with a catastrophic health insurance plan. This is insurance that is available if a health related issue arises that could be financially crippling to most families. The deductible is very high (appx $3000 – $6000 for individuals or families). To be able to pay this very high deductible we are able to put pre-tax money from our paychecks into health saving accounts which rolls over and accumulates every year. This bucket of money is always available with a debit card. You can use it whenever you want to pay for the things that help you and your family feel healthy.
  • Preventative health maintenance visits remain free without deductible. Preventative visits to your PCP, dentist, eye doctor, etc. are covered by the catastrophic health insurance plan.
  • Health Savings Account money can be spent on whatever helps you personally and/or your family feel healthy. For example: massage, outpatient sick clinic, Chiropractic, Gym membership, smoking cessation counseling, support groups, aromatherapy, music therapy, art therapy, yoga classes, spin classes, personal trainer, nutritional counseling, personal care attendants, home health aids, etc.

I said it was simple.
